A Vision for the Dublin Region
The Dublin Regional Authority adopted a vision for the Dublin Region in 1995 with four main facets. This is broadly based on the vision used by the Dublin Transportation initiative:
Dublin: A Living City-Region
A city region to serve its inhabitants and meet their aspirations
A city region of human scale, clean, accessible and environmentally friendly
A city region with low levels of crime and pollution and high standards of public services
A city region with a well educated, healthy, prosperous and caring population
Dublin: A Metropolitan Region
A region with a strong, diverse and developing city, town and rural economy
A region stimulating major investment and economic opportunities for its workforce
A leading centre for education and innovation
A region which is well planned, enabling sustainable development with real citizen input
Dublin: The National Capital
A regional capital to be proud of and a fit setting for national government
A capital that has preserved its heritage, promoted arts and culture
The wealth generating centre of Ireland, with a unique character and physical environment
A city region with effective, integrated and well-resourced local government
Dublin: A Leading European City
A city growing towards Europe, civilised, vibrant and literate
A highly attractive European location for inward investment
A city influencing European policy and participating as both a competitor and a partner
A city broadening its economic base as one of the most accessible entry points to Europe
The Dublin Regional Authority is seeking to promote this vision among all the Region's interests, including all public sector agencies, private sector bodies and the general public.
